Flash Freewrite #002 — It was rather his conduct
It was rather his conduct, his behaviour that rankled her. The way he slouched against the wall, hands in his pockets instead of standing up straight and looking her in the eye. His denim jeans sagged, revealing the waistband of his pants — something she hated but they were all doing it now.
She wondered if he was high or his eyes were half-lidded because he didn’t want to engage.
Mum is looking for you — she said — Why don’t you come home?
He shrugged, said nothing. How long had he been there, propped up like that outside the deli? She heard scattered laughter from the boys behind her.
Is that his sister or his mom?
She didn’t give a shit about those rangy crows.
Andre? What’s going on with you?
He smiled a little. A secret joke all of his own.
