Frederick Douglass would lock up these insurrectionists, throw away the key and repeal their beloved 2nd Amendment.

During post-slavery Reconstruction, Douglass campaigned fiercely against appeasements to racist, former slave-holding (Democrat) states in the South designed to unify the nation. Douglass knew empowering the South in order to win over white supremacists would lead to the reinstatement of slavery. He was right. The 1877 withdrawal of Federal Troops from the South was the end of Reconstruction. Jim Crow laws swept the country, destroying the slim advancements made by free black people. Even Douglass in his worst nightmares could not have imagined the legalised terrorism of Jim Crow that would have lasted well into the 1970s, inspiring Hitler and Apartheid South Africa. Frederick Douglass would not bother trying to appease present-day Republicans like Lindsey Graham and the ‘Insurrectionist Caucus’. He knew what was at stake. Why don’t we?
