Je Suis Gorilla Glue Girl. I doubt Tessica will win her lawsuit against Gorilla Glue. But in response to all the offensive comments directed at her under #gorillagluegirl in reaction to her mistakenly spraying Gorilla Glue onto her hair and then having to have it removed in a 4-hour op — I say ALL black women have been Gorilla Glue girl at some time. Being pushed or even forced to attain Eurocentric beauty standards has long had us undertaking dangerous experiments with our hair. Did you know relaxer creams originated from dangerous LYE causing severe burns? What about the hot comb, a burning hot comb put into FIRE used to straighten hair? Horrified yet? Lace front wigs, popular today, leave BALD patches. Beyond hair: Bleaching, surgeries, permanently changing eye-color show it’s less the act than our DESPERATION to assimilate that puts us in danger in so many ways.
