Last Read — A New Kind of Bookclub on Clubhouse

The phenomenon of Clubhouse has allowed a different type of social interaction to emerge. The bad news is that it’s still for iPhone users only. The good news is that it’s just the start of a whole new way of sharing information. No text, no video, just voices. It’s easy to misread emotion on the page. On the other hand being on camera is intimidating for many. Clubhouse offers the sweet spot in the middle. More emotion with the blessing of invisibility. The only thing showing is your profile pic, which can reveal as much or as little as you like. It’s working very well for live debate, performances, networking and pitching new ideas. It’s also been surprisingly innovative for BOOK CLUBS.

Last Read or #lastread is a new kind of bookclub on Clubhouse, run by two sassy bibliophiles from London and New York. Separately they are Elaine Adu-Poku and Vanessa Walters, but together they are Last Read, a Clubhouse book club known for its Monday room at 13:00 EST — conversely 18:00 GMT where people share the books they’ve recently read.

Traditionally in a bookclub, everyone reads the same book and then comes together to discuss it. This is richly satisfying and there are book clubs like this on Clubhouse too…
