The bias and downright wickedness of the Daily Mail is legendary. But with Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, The Daily Mail went beyond their usual antics. This judgement means at least for once, an institution, someone in authority has held them accountable.

It’s a symbolic legal victory. The harm caused by publishing her father’s antagonistic letters to her went ‘deep’. It did not merely destroy one of the most important connections one can ever hope to make in a lifetime, but must have also completely dismantled her feeling of safety, the integrity of her person, her very worth as a human being.

The DM routinely disrespects privacy, but this was, additionally, veiled racism in which the British public is complicit and in denial. This racism must have caused additional harm. So this judgement goes beyond privacy for her. That must be acknowledged.
